Therapeutic Approach

I use Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) as my main framework to understanding a person. This means we explore how our thoughts, feelings, body and behaviours are connected, and we look at how these may be interfering with the way you would like to lead your life.

Along with CBT, I often bring in different approaches depending on your needs and what we are currently working on. This includes Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT). This may also include psycho-educational material that can help you understand what is happening in your body and brain and why you may be reacting the way you do to certain places, people, emotions, etc.

I also bring in the importance of building community and belonging however possible in a person’s life. I believe in empowering people by building from their strengths and enhancing their well-being.

Because each person is different, what works for one may not work for another, and so we will work together to find skills, strategies and techniques that work for you.

Owning our story can be hard but not nearly as difficult as spending our lives running from it. Embracing our vulnerabilities is risky but not nearly as dangerous as giving up on love and belonging and joy—the experiences that make us the most vulnerable. Only when we are brave enough to explore the darkness will we discover the infinite power of our light.
